The Maine Diner Now Serving Food at the Sanford Country Club
"Greenside" by the Maine Diner will serve seasonally through mid-October
WELLS, ME, August 12, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Maine Diner, a family-owned eatery known for its home-cooking, friendly service and home-town hospitality, announced it will be serving its famous home-style food during the summer season at the Sanford Country Club on Route 4 in Sanford.
This marks the second season the Maine Diner has served its renowned fare off-site from it landmark blue-and-white diner on Route 1. Last year brothers Myles and Dick Henry, who opened their famous diner 26 years ago, ran a pilot "test season" at the golf course and found it to be so successful they came back for the 2009 season. A casual pub-style menu (not the full Maine Diner menu) with a full-bar will be available daily from 11 a.m. until dusk through mid-October. Diners can eat at the club on the deck, or order food to go at (207) 324-9712.
"For years members of the golf club often asked us to offer our food. When we were approached with this potential opportunity it seemed like a natural fit and an answer to diners' requests," Maine Diner General Manager Jim MacNeill, who is also a Sanford Country Club member, said. "If we ever expanded into multiple restaurants in the future this is a great training ground to test the waters. Here we can have our 'hands-on' approach to the menu and manage this site from a few minutes away to have control over the food we are famous for."
A modified Maine Diner menu is posted at Hole #8. Golfers can pick up the phone when they tee off and order ahead for food and pick it up via their golf cart in minutes. Diners from the local area can also phone in an order for their workplace, or simply stop by. The restaurant is open to the public; you don't need to golf to eat there.
"Our patrons will enjoy the same great quality food from family recipes that we have served to more than 5 million customers in the past 26 years, just in a different seasonal setting," Myles Henry, co-owner of the Maine Diner said. "It was very important to my brother Dick and I that we oversee every detail of this endeavor to keep it true to out wishes."
The Maine Diner's food has earned them outstanding accolades on NBC's Today Show and The Phantom Gourmet. Despite the menu's critical acclaim, Henry said more than 50 items on the menu are under $10, making it one of the most "budget-friendly" dining options for home-cooked meals on Route 1. Some of the ingredients are even grown on-site in their Route 1 garden.
"Whether our customers meet us on Route 1 or Route 4 they can rest assured they will get served a great tasting meal served up right when they away from home," Henry said.
